Recently at SAWCC we organized a holiday food baskets project, to help out some of our service-users in need. Initially we meant to launch the project around the holiday season but due to unforeseen circumstances and lockdown regulations, we had a few delays, so it was only recently that we were able to finally reach out to service-users about receiving the food baskets.
We are happy to share that the project was a great success! We have been busy these past few weeks coordinating deliveries and pickups with community members in need. We were excited about organizing the food baskets because they catered to South Asian families, and were filled with South Asian cuisine staples, such as atta, besan, daal, rice, chai and spices (just to name a few). We included some biscuits and snacks as well so children would also enjoy. We also included some disposable face masks and hand sanitizer!
Food basket projects are common around the holiday season but they rarely cater to culturally specific cuisines, so we wanted to ensure our service-users were being provided with groceries that they were actually familiar with and that their families would enjoy.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in this project for their hard work, it was a great team effort and we’re very happy with the results!
